Twenty-Second
Sunday in Ordinary Time
August 31, 2008
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
On Friday, September 5th, we celebrate the Feast of Blessed
Teresa of
Calcutta who was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was
a Roman Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity
and
won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian
work. For over forty years, she ministered to the needs of the
poor,
sick, orphaned, and dying in Kolkata (Calcutta), India. As
the Missionaries of Charity grew under Mother Teresa's leadership,
they expanded
their ministry to other countries. By the
1970s she had become internationally famed as a humanitarian
and
advocate for the poor and helpless, due in part to a documentary,
and book, Something Beautiful for God by Malcolm
Muggeridge.
Following her death she was beatified by Pope
John Paul II and given the title Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.
Saint Mother Teresa Quotes
• Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your
strength lies.
•
Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for,
forgotten by everybody,
I think that is a much greater hunger, a much
greater poverty than the
person who has nothing to eat.
• Do not think that love, in order to be genuine, has to be
extraordinary. What we need is to love without
getting
tired.
• Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person.
• Each one of them is Jesus in disguise.
• Even the rich are hungry for love, for being cared for,
for
being wanted, for having someone to call their own.
• Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush,
anxious for greater developments and greater riches
and
so on, so that children have very little time for their parents.
Parents have very little time for each other, and
in
the home begins the disruption of peace of the world.
• Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love,
a gift to
that person, a beautiful thing.
• God doesn't require us to succeed; he only requires that
you try.
• Good works are links that form a chain of love.
• I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God
who is
sending a love letter to the world.
• I do not pray for success, I ask for faithfulness.
