Celebrating The Year of the Priest
The practice of hosting a blessed chalice in
the homes of parishioners as a sign of the
priesthood and a reminder to pray for vocations
to the priesthood has been happening
in our parishes. Beginning in January,
the sign-up sheet will rotate monthly to
give families from each parish an opportunity
to take part in this important community
prayer. January-Our Lady of Mount
Carmel; February-St. Columbkille;
March-Immaculate Conception; April-St.
Hedwig’s; May-St. Mary’s. Instruction on
caring for and passing on the chalice to the
next family on the list will be included
with the chalice. The pick-up and exchange
day will be at that parish’s weekend
Mass. This is a blessed opportunity to
pray with your children and grandchildren
and to have conversation with them about
considering the priesthood or religious life
as an option for their future. The care of
the chalice while it is in your possession is
also a valuable teaching on reverence and
awe and wonder. Let us learn while we
pray for vocations! If anyone has any
questions regarding the chalice please call
Florence Voss at 746-2965.
